Cambridge Ukrainian Studies, an academic centre in the Department of Slavonic Studies, University of Cambridge, invites you to an unmissable evening with the Ukrainian musical phenomenon ‘Odyn v kanoe’. The trio’s sound is uniquely fresh, sincere and alive. This special concert marks their UK debut. It will take place this Friday, 22 April 2016 at 20:00 in the intimate, historic space of St John’s College Chapel.

The award-winning band ‘Odyn v Kanoe’ was formed in L’viv, Ukraine in 2010. They have been critically celebrated as the ‘fresh blood of Ukrainian music’ with a ‘sincere, pure’ sound and philosophy. The group has invigorated many traditional Ukrainian and Slavonic poems with their music. This concert in Cambridge marks their British debut.

The event is part of our Sixth Annual Vsesvit Evening, which consists of musical performances and literary readings of texts in the original language(s) and in English and Ukrainian translation. The Vsesvit Evening celebrates the mission of the journal Vsesvit (The Universe), the oldest active literary journal in Ukraine. Founded in 1925 by Oleksandr Dovzhenko, Vasyl Blakytnyi and Mykola Khvylovyi, the journal has translated over 4,000 works from 98 literatures into the Ukrainian language.
