The Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain in collaboration with the Ukrainian World Congress, is calling on everyone in the United Kingdom to join the #StandWithUkraine social media campaign and show your support for the right of Ukrainians to live in peace and freedom in their own sovereign country.
In 2014, Russia annexed Crimea – Ukraine’s peninsula and invaded a large swathe of Eastern Ukraine to support a non-existent ‘separatist movement’. As a result of this aggression, over 14,000 soldiers and civilians have been killed and over 1.5 million people displaced.
After 8 years of war against Ukraine, Russia is threatening to further invade Ukraine and other countries in the region. A new regional war will engulf Europe and decimate the international order.
The Ukrainian World Congress calls on the international community to provide military and security assistance to Ukraine, suspend Russia’s NordStream2 pipeline, impose strict punitive sanctions against Russia, and together stop a new war from emerging in Europe. #StopPutinNOW
CALL TO ACTION
We are calling on everyone to join in the #StandWithUkraine campaign on or around 22 January 2022, i.e., on the anniversary of the unification of Ukrainian lands in 1919, by visiting our Campaign Page. From there, all you will need to do is:
1. Download one of the following posters #StandWithUkraine images: #StandWithUkraine, #IStandWithUkraine or #WeStandWithUkraine;
2. Take a photo holding the image and, on or around 22 January 2022, share your photo(s) on your social media account(s) with the hashtag #StandWithUkraine;
3. Write to your MP. Although the position of HM Government in this country has been very clearly placed on record by the Defence Secretary, it is nevertheless important for as many people as possible to write to local MPs to make them aware that they have constituents with grave concerns about the situation on Ukraine’s borders, and to press for stronger sanctions against Russia. Remember, your MP receives hundreds of letters a week from constituents about all sorts of issues. If MPs do not receive any letters or messages from anyone about Ukraine, they are less likely to see this as important to their constituents and will therefore be less likely to support or raise any such issue in Parliament. A template of a letter to your MP can be downloaded here which you can, of course use as is, or amend as you would like it to read to reflect your views and concerns.
