British-Ukrainian Aid is proud to support the team of adaptive athletes from Ukraine participating in Cross Fit competitions in the United Kingdom: the Battle of Britain Throwdown is a yearly individual athlete’s competition held each April at Staffordshire County Showground and CrossFit® Strength in Depth competition, which will be held at Lee Valley Athletics Centre in London.

As part of British-Ukrainian Aid’s Informal Talks Series, Yuri Kozlovskyi and Roman Lindov will meet their supporters on Sunday 21st April at 2 pm at the Ukrainian Cultural Centre.

The athletes will talk about the “Games for Heroes”, a Cross Fit competition in Ukraine set up for sportsmen who have lost their limbs, and share their views on their participation in the UK Fit Cross tournaments. Roman Lindov was named the strongest adaptive athlete in Ukraine in 2018.

Meet the Athletes

Yuri Kozlovskyi, a serviceman of the Ukrainian State Border Guard Service lost his right foot stepping on an unknown object when it exploded. “I try to train constantly. This is my conscious choice – it makes me feel more positive and helps to be better adjusted to the society “, – says Yuri.

Roman Lindov was only 22 years old when Maidan’s upraising started, he studied Sociology at Shevchenko Kiev National University. On February 18, 2014, there was an explosion on the Independence Square. 30% of Roman’s body was burned and doctors had to amputate his left hand. Roman dreamed of continuing his exercise and engagement in sports activities but this was not possible without special prosthetics which were not available in Ukraine. Luckily, Roman was selected for the Prosthetics for Ukraine project organised by Canada – Ukraine International Assistance Fund – CUIA Fund. As a result, Roman received the prosthetics designed specifically for professional rowers.

British-Ukrainian Aid is currently raising funds for three Ukrainian adaptive athletes visiting the UK to take part in two Cross Fit Tournaments in April & May 2019. Please donate generously via JustGiving to support the brave iron-willed Ukrainian athletes!
