More About the Film
Selected for Un Certain Regard at Cannes and the Ukrainian entry for the Oscar, this road movie follows the efforts of a Crimean Tartar father Mustafa, and son Alim to transport the body of Nazim, their son, and brother, from Kyiv to his Crimean homeland following his death in the Russian-Ukrainian war. Lurking offstage is the long history of Russian intervention in Crimea, including not only the recent occupation but also Stalin’s mass deportations of Tartars.
Director Nariman Aliev will join us by Zoom after the screening of his 97-minute debut feature film Homeward (Evge).
