Belarus Free Theatre is inviting for its new writing award ceremony.  The event will feature a rehearsed reading of ‘The Women and the Sniper’ by Ukrainian journalist and playwright Tatiana Kitsenko, directed by Mark Ravenhill. Tatiana will be joining the event from Kiev specifically to take part in a panel discussion on the day.

Join Belarus Free Theatre (BFT) for an afternoon celebrating new voices from Eastern Europe, including readings followed by prize-giving and a discussion inspired by Harold Pinter’s Nobel Prize speech on the role of the playwright. Ceremonies will take place simultaneously in London, Minsk, Kiev and Moscow.

Mark Ravenhill, Belarus Free Theatre’s Nicolai Khalezin and Vladimir Shcherbandirect readings of winning plays. After the prize-giving Ukrainian playwright Tatiana Kitsenko will join them to discuss the role of the playwright in contemporary society.

The International Contest of Contemporary Drama (ICCD) is open to submissions in Russian, Belarusian and Ukrainian.

ICCD exists to give a voice to writers where there is little or no opportunity for them to be heard in their home countries. Contemporary playwrights are a vital force in these societies; they uncover worlds which are never discussed by journalists or politicians.

The 6 winning plays have been translated into English and will be published in a collection by Oberon Books to coincide with the ceremony.
