Have the changes Ukraine has undergone in the past two years increased the propensity of the country’s citizens to trust their state?
Marc P. Berenson (King’s Russia Institute, London) and Andrii Bychenko (Razumkov Centre, Kyiv) will present the findings of a nationwide survey designed to ascertain levels of trust in the government, citizen perceptions of governance and support for upholding the obligations of citizenship. The research focuses on the question of taxation – specifically, whether Ukrainians are now more willing than in the past to pay the state their dues – as thesine qua non of the contemporary state and the social contract.
Marc Berenson is Senior Lecturer in the Russia Institute at King’s College London.
Andrii Bychenko is Diector of Sociological Services at the Ukrainian Centre for Economic and Political Studies named after Olexander Razumkov (the Razumkov Centre).
The presentation and discussion will be followed by a wine reception.
