Dr Olivier Ribbelink of the Asser Institute, The Hague. His talk is about the legal status of gold that was lent by a Crimean museum to an Amsterdam museum just before the Russian takeover. Where should the gold go now? (The Case of the “Sythian Gold”). A highly entertaining and well presented lecture.

Speaker’s biography:

0022eztb2u89yvg0Olivier Ribbelink is a Senior Researcher at the T.M.C. Asser Instituut, and served as Head of the Research Department from 2000 until 2010. He studied International Relations and International Law at the University of Amsterdam. In 1988, he defended his PhD thesis Succession of International Organisations: From League of Nations-United Nations to LAFTA–LAIA. From 1987 until 1997, he was a lecturer in International Law at the University of Amsterdam, and from 2010-1014 (part-time) Associate Professor at Utrecht University . Amongst various other appointments, he was the project-coordinator of the 2007 Handbook International Law, and Head of the Research Team of the AGIS project on European Arrest Warrant for the European Commission. He is a Board Member of the Netherlands School of Human Rights Research. From 1992-2008 he served as Secretary-General of the Alumni Association of the Hague Academy of International Law. His areas of interest include inter alia general international law, international institutional law, state succession, and the law of outer space.
