In the context of the energy security strategy published in May 2014, this discussion will be looking at how the EU energy policy is supporting energy security and with what policy tools. It will also address the EU’s energy relationship with Russia, how dependence can be reduced through diversification, and at what cost

Before arriving at Cambridge, he worked as a researcher at the National Academy of Sciences in Ukraine. His most recent publication for ECFR is ‘Why Europe should support reform of the Ukrainian gas market’(October 2014).

Julian Popov is a fellow of the European Climate Foundation. Julian currently leads the South East Europe Grid Initiative which catalyses high level energy policy cooperation among countries in wider South East Europe, including Turkey and the Western Balkans. Julian is a former Minister of Environment of Bulgaria, the founding CEO and current Board Member of the New Bulgarian University.

David Cadier is a Fellow in International Strategy and Diplomacy at LSE IDEAS and a teaching fellow in the International Relations Department at the LSE.
