Haas and Dvořák of Czech; Mussorgsky and Shostakovich of Russian; Lysenko, Filtz, Shamo and Nyzhankivsky of Ukrainian cultures.
Rarely performed song cycles and excerpts (some never performed in the UK before this duet) by these legendary composers of the three Slavic countries, so close to each other, but so individual in expressing emotions and perception of the world. One of the exciting moments of the evening is the world premiere of the ‘Two Russian Songs’ by a highly acclaimed young Armenian composer Kristina Arakelyan.
The vocal music programme will be complemented by some outstanding solo piano works by Tchaikovsky, Lysenko and Janáček.
Multi-award winning mezzo-soprano Anna Starushkevych (Ukraine) and the renowned pianist Lada Valesova, whose cultural roots grow deep in the mentioned cultures, are very much looking forward to sharing this special programme with the audience of Oxford.
