Due to popular demand – The Film Festival Doctor & Century Club are proud to present another exclusive preview screening of the powerful documentary feature film GOLOS: UKRAINIAN VOICES + filmmaker Q&A ahead of its release.
The men and women of Ukraine voice their dreams and nightmares.
A compelling and emotive documentary about Ukraine today and the people who live there, GOLOS provides a platform for ordinary people – whatever their location, age, education, ethnic and economic backgrounds – to share their innermost thoughts and remembrances far from the cacophony of political voices and mass media. Filmed across four cities, the film takes us straight to the hearts of its citizens.
GOLOS is written, produced, co-directed and narrated by UK actress and writer Dolya Gavanski, whose incredible personal story started as a young Tito’s pioneer in Yugoslavia. With a haunting score by talented Alexander ‘Sacha’ Puttnam, and co-directed by young Ukrainian filmmaker Fedor Levchenko, he filmshows a common struggle for peace despite differences of opinion, and the influences and memories that form Ukrainian identity.Who are we? What makes us tick? Their voices tell us not only of the multifaceted nature of Ukraine’s reality, but also something of the nature of human identity.
Gavanski says: “I am moved, sometimes to sardonic laughter, sometimes to tears of fury, by the absurd and bloody politics of identity in post-Soviet Europe. As Jack Nicholson says in Mars Attacks “Can’t we all just get along?”
