How does culture come into play in sports?
This month Sietar UK takes a fascinating look at the origin and development of Cultural Sport Psychology, and on the functioning of culturally diverse sports teams, with Dr Anastasiya Khomutova, Lecturer in Sport Psychology at UCFB Wembley. Originally from Donetsk, Ukraine, Anastasiya holds a PhD in Kinanthropology (specialising in Sport Psychology) and a master’s degree in Psychology, both awarded by Palacky University in Olomouc, Czech Republic. She is part of the managing council of ENYSSP (European Network of Young Specialists in Sport Psychology), and co-coordinates the Education Department of this organisation.
Participants will be introduced to the concept of acculturation of migrant athletes and coaches’ perspectives on working with culturally diverse athletes and teams.
The event also offers an opportunity to network with professionals in the field, as well as learn about postgraduate degree programmes in intercultural communication offered by event sponsor Birkbeck Department of Applied Linguistics and Communication.
Sietar UK is the UK chapter of the Society for Intercultural Education, Training and Research. Our mission is to share intercultural research, build networks with intercultural professionals and everyone interested in intercultural collaboration, and to provide events and socials to support professional development.
