The methodology of this project is based on re-visiting and re-creating ‘existing images’. It investigates the archive material of the Ukrainian National Film on the fairly recent Chernobyl Disaster, which occurred on 26 April 1986. The exhibition comprises of a multi-media installation; a series of printed photographs; one channel video; and selected publications that have enriched the research. The project enhances visitor interaction by holding a day workshop, panel discussion and screening of the film Pripyat: City of the Future.
Paricipating artists:
Azadeh Fatehrad (b.1981, Tehran) is an artist and researcher currently based at the Photography Programme of the Royal College of Art, London. Her research engages with the feminist history of Iran from 1909 to the present. Her projects explore still and moving image archives investigating the ways in which the feminist movement has been expanded among urban middle class women in her home country of Iran. Fatehrad has exhibited her work internationally in London, Vancouver, New York, Tehran.

Viktor Németh is a self-taught photographer, currently lives and works in London. From very young age Németh developed a keen interest in the topic and informally educated himself on the various camera types and lenses. He also fell in love with the stories that abandoned and desolate livelihoods and sites can tell. Németh favours the roads and places that are less travelled. Chernobyl and the nearby Pripyat have one of his most interesting photographic subjects.

Christian Nyampeta is an artist living and working in London. He graduated from the MA Industrial Design course at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in 2009. Nyampeta’s research is concerned with issues of Living Together: individuality, conviviality and industriality. Ongoing projects centre around migratory and performative practices including writing and public lectures, convened under his research provisionally titled of “How To Live Together(?)”. Christian Nyampeta is an Mphil/PhD candidate at the Visual Cultures Department of Goldsmiths University of London.

David Bickerstaff is an artist and award-winning filmmaker who founded Atomictv in 1997 as an umbrella organisation for developing digital art projects and collaborations. His documentary work and video installations such as Narrenturm, Hygieia, Heavy Water: a film for Chernobyl and Making War Horse have been broadcast in Britain and shown in many international festivals and exhibitions, which include the Wellcome Collection, Onedotzero, Festival International du Film sur L’Art Montreal, and the documentary fortnight at the Museum of Modern Art New York. He was a member of the 2004 BAFTA judging panel for Interactive Art and is currently a Creative Director at Newangle Productions, a commercial partnership that produces video installations and interactives for visitor attractions. Recent clients including the British Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, Historic Royal Palaces, Museum of London, the Royal Observatory, and Cadbury World. He has won various awards for his projects including an Insight Award for Excellence from the National Association of Film and Digital Media Artists in the US.
