The talk will be in English, will be moderated by Marina Pesenti, Director of the Ukrainian Institute and will be followed by a wine reception.
“Oblivion” (“Забуття”) by Tanya Malyarchuk and “Thirteen Tales in the Dark” (“Тринадцять історій у темряві”) by Halyna Tkachuk won BBC Ukrainian Book of the Year and Children’s Book of the Year 2016 awards at the award ceremony in Kyiv in December 2017. BBC Ukrainian announced the winners of its Book of the Year 2016 awards presented in partnership with the Cultural Programme of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
Svitlana Pyrkalo, EBRD’s Advisor on Culture and a founder of BBC’s Annual Book of the Year Award, will talk about last years’ short-listed book, the winners and the key trends on the Ukrainian book market, enjoying a period of robust growth. The BBC’s Book of the Year Award was established in 2005 and over this time has become a prestigious price, highlighting achievements of contemporary Ukrainian literature. The “BBC Children’s Book of the Year” award was established 4 years ago.
