The winners of the BBC’s annual literary price, “BBC Book of the Year” (Книга року BBC 2015) and “BBC Children’s Book of the Year” (Дитяча Книга року BBC 2015) have been announced in Kyiv in December 2015. The Ukrainian Institute is giving the floor to Svitlana Pyrkalo, a member of the award jury and the Cultural Advisor at the the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), a founder and long-time supporter of the prize.
Svitlana will talk about the 2015 award winners: a collection of short stories called “The House by Bating Hallow” by Vasyl Makhno (“Дім у Бейтінґ Голлов”) and Andriy Bachynsky‘s “140 Decibels of Silence”(“140 децибелів тиші”) which won the BBC Children’s Book of the Year 2015 accolade.
Svitlana, who has had a successful career of writer and journalist, will also talk about recent trends of Ukraine’s literary market.
The BBC’s Book of the Year Award was established in 2005 and over this time has become a prestigious prize, highlighting achievements of contemporary Ukrainian literature. The “BBC Children’s Book of the Year” award was established 4 years ago.
