Centre of the first great Slav civilisation in the tenth century, and split between neighbouring powers for a millennium, Ukraine finally won its independence in 1991, with the collapse of the Soviet Union. Since then it has once more become a battleground between East and West.

Join Anna Reid as she discusses her acclaimed book, Borderland, which combines history-writing, analysis and reportage from the conflict in Donbass to peel away the layers of myth and propaganda that surround this complex country.

Anna Reid is a historian and journalist specialising in Russia and Ukraine and former Kiev correspondent for The Economist and the Daily Telegraph.
